What Is a Family?

The idea of family is often taken for granted in American society. Most families enjoy the stability that this cultural model provides, without any thought given to the idea of nuclear families. Without this idea, many people will spend their lives single and unhappy. Many of the problems in modern society stem from this lack of understanding. Unfortunately, many people feel that there is no need to define what a family actually is; it is only an idea they have learned and applied from television, movies and other forms of entertainment.

In order to understand the concept of family, it is important to learn about the legal bonds of a family. A family is a group of two or more people that live together in a relationship where each one understands the value of the other. A family has many different kinds, but the basic elements are usually marriage, procreation and children. Children are a part of most families, but single parents and stepfamilies commonly make up a large part of this concept as well.

A common problem in the United States is a situation where both parents are dead. This is called a orphaned family; often times, these types of families lack the support they need to make sure that the children receive a adequate education. In these situations, there are often children living with only one parent, the mother, while the father goes to work and earns a meager living. As you can see, these families often do not have a legal bond, but are still recognized as a family unit by others. These families include single parents and stepfamilies, as well as divorced and blended families. Even gay families fall into this category.

Parental responsibility is an important part of the definition of a family. In the case of a two parent family, both parents play an active role in the children’s lives. This often times means that one parent does not spend too much time with the children and that the children spend more time with one parent or the other. In the case of stepfamilies, usually each parent helps with the children’s daily life, which leaves just the two of them together for emotional support. Although these families may still have children living with them, they are more likely to be parented by separate mothers and fathers. This allows the children to move on with their own lives without feeling like they are missing something from their parents.

The other type of family is the nuclear family. A nuclear family is a hereditary family, where each member of the family has one parent; usually the mother and father. Children from this type of family live with only one parent. Because this is such a rare event, children often become attached to their grandparents or another close family member, and may try to follow their grandparents around from room to room when they grow up.

So what is the answer to the question, What is a Family? It’s a group of people who come together to make a family. Whether it is a nuclear family or a traditional family, there are many different kinds to choose from. Children need to know who their parents are, and not be raised by someone else. A child needs to feel that their mother or father loves them and cares about them. Without this love, children often times feel that they are being raised by a single parent, even if that is not true.
